Owl Cluster Design on Extra-warm, Fleece-lined Hoodie
The Owl Cluster is 7,900 light years away from Earth which is why this star cluster can only be seen through a telescope. About 150 stars make up the cluster, most are the blue or white colored younger stars. Those with a yellow tint, would be like our Sun, putting them in their high school / college years. The few orange or red stars you can detect are senior citizen stars.
If you play connect-the-dots with about 25 of the brightest stars, you will recognize how this star cluster got its name. People who may not be able to visualize a Great Horned Owl swooping out of the darkness to attack their face, might instead see it as a dragonfly, E.T. (Stephen Spielberg’s friendly alien), or Wall-e the little repair robot from the Pixar Movie.
