Medium Weight (8.1 oz fabric) and Carbon Neutral Fleece Hoodies
Jupiter Design on Carbon Neutral Fleece Hoodie
Jupiter is the largest planet in this star system that Earthlings call "The Solar System". It is 10 times Earth's diameter and 318 times the mass. Jupiter has 95 moons but only the four largest can be seen from telescopes less than one meter in diameter. Io is a volcanic moon and yellow in color (lower left in the design) because most of its surface is covered in sulfuric ash. Ganymede (upper right) is the largest moon in the solar system and even larger than the planet Mercury. Next to it in this design, is the slightly smaller Callisto, which is still bigger than Earth's Moon. Finally, the 4th Galilean moon (named for their discoverer Galileo) is Europa, an ocean-world covered with a thick layer of ice.
If these moons happen to be positioned as in this design, you would not see Europa traveling in front of Jupiter even when using the Dark Rangers' biggest telescope. However, you might notice the black spot. That is Europa's shadow being cast on the surface of Jupiter. If you could somehow be in that shadow you would see a solar eclipse. Finally, the great red spot is known as the "The Great Red Spot" and is a famous storm on Jupiter's surface that has been raging for at least 350 years. Jupiter spins so fast that a day on the “King Planet” is only 10 hours. That means if you don't see that red spot, you either need a bigger telescope or you just have to wait a few hours for that side of Jupiter to face Earth again.

Saturn Design on Carbon Neutral Fleece Hoodie
When you see Saturn though a telescope, you know what you are looking at because only two things in the known Universe look like Saturn: Saturn, and fictional depictions of other planets animated to look like Saturn. And though even when viewed through BIG telescopes, it appears small. Know that it is NOT small. It is just far away. Saturn and its ring system have a combined diameter of 170,000 miles (270,000 km). By comparison, our Moon orbits at an average distance of 240,000 miles (385,000 km). This means even without the extreme gravitational challenges involved, it would still be difficult to parallel-park Saturn between Earth and our Moon.
Saturn's rings are 99% pure water ice and thought to have originated from a moon falling into a decaying orbit, but before plunging into the planet, it was crushed into ice cubes and ice boulders by Saturn's strong rotational forces. The smaller pieces then expanded outward, flattening out, until the rings are now as thin as 33 ft (10 m).
As "big" as Saturn is, also being 95 times Earth's mass, it has a much lower density than every other body in the Solar System. Paradoxically, this might be why Saturn has so many more moons (145) than Jupiter (95). Both have enough gravity to pull smaller worlds into orbit around them, but Jupiter's gravitational well is 2.5 times deeper than Saturn's so comets and asteroids might be more likely to plunge all the way into Jupiter before their orbits can stabilize. Regardless, the seven moons, as depicted on this wearable Telescope Astro Art are from top to bottom: Mimas, Rhea, Enceladus, Tethys, Iapetus, Dione, Titan. If you know that Mimas is the most inner moon and Iapetus is the most distant, they probably appear out of order in this design. Realize that these moons always appear randomly jumbled or scattered about when viewed through a telescope. This is because all these moons have such bigger orbits than the rings that when they are orbiting in front of or behind the planet, they will appear at entirely different and seemingly wrong elevations when compared to the rings.

Owl Cluster Design on Carbon Neutral Fleece Hoodie
If you play connect-the-dots with about 25 of the brightest stars, you will recognize how this star cluster got its name. People who may not be able to visualize a Great Horned Owl swooping out of the darkness to attack their face, might instead see it as a dragonfly, E.T. (Stephen Spielberg’s friendly alien), or Wall-e the little repair robot from the Pixar Movie.

Uranus Design on Carbon Neutral Fleece Hoodie
Who can't enjoy a new-to-you and especially new-to-your-friends Uranus joke? Obviously, somebody who would never wear this shirt in public. But couldn’t you gift one to a friend who’d be pleasantly surprised and forced rethink just how uptight they thought you were? Maybe you have a frenemy for whom such a so-called "gift" would keep them off-balanced and guessing?
Besides, if you ask a Dark Ranger, they might suggest that the most vulgar Uranus joke is that almost nobody knows anything accurate about this infamously named world. Should we blame those who can't resist the giggle, or those who lack the courage/talent to teach through and beyond the laughter?
Regardless, while we say it as a joke, we also sincerely feel, "No visit to the Dark Ranger Observatory is complete until you have a good look at Uranus." Seeing Planet #7 through a BIG telescope for the first time, won't change your life in the same way that a view Saturn can for some people. Indeed, Uranus is just a pale turquoise dot. Even when imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope it’s just a much bigger pale turquoise dot. But it's also a sight few people ever have, or ever will, see with their own eye. What's more, under optimal seeing conditions, our largest telescopes can also show the faint gray speck of Titania, the foreground world in this design -- Uranus's largest moon.
Like every other planet, Uranus isn’t always in the nighttime sky when our observatory is “in show.” If you’re not comfortable calling, texting, or emailing to ask, “Are we going to see Uranus tonight?”, you can consult an astronomy app on your phone. Worst case scenario? If your timing is off, now you have a reason to visit us again.
If given the opportunity to see the real thing, take a few extra minutes to get a good look. And while waiting for your turn at the eyepiece, don’t feel like you need to suppress a chuckle. Certainly, don’t suppress the opportunity to learn some science and history about this weird world. Happily, take home that experience and the new found knowledge. No, you don't have to buy and proudly wear this design. But you'd have a better story to tell if you did. Not to mention we'd greatly appreciate the word-of-mouth advertising that there’s at least one observatory where there’s no shame in admiring Uranus.

Extra Warm Fleece Hoodies (12.1 oz. fabric)
Owl Cluster Design on Extra-warm, Fleece-lined Hoodie
The Owl Cluster is 7,900 light years away from Earth which is why this star cluster can only be seen through a telescope. About 150 stars make up the cluster, most are the blue or white colored younger stars. Those with a yellow tint, would be like our Sun, putting them in their high school / college years. The few orange or red stars you can detect are senior citizen stars.
If you play connect-the-dots with about 25 of the brightest stars, you will recognize how this star cluster got its name. People who may not be able to visualize a Great Horned Owl swooping out of the darkness to attack their face, might instead see it as a dragonfly, E.T.
